The September luncheon is tentatively scheduled to feature South Bay Labor Council Director Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins.

Century Club Luncheon
09/12/2008 12:00noon
San Jose Holiday Inn, 1740 N. First Street, Central San Jose

We are very privileged to have Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins as our speaker. Phaedra, Executive Director of Working Partnerships USA and CEO of the South Bay AFL-CIO Labor Council, has been named by San Jose Magazine as one of the 100 most powerful people in Silicon Valley and was cited as one of "40 under 40" young leaders by the Silicon Valley Business Journal. She is known to many of us as a dynamic, insightful speaker and has just returned from the Democratic Convention in Denver. She will talk about local and presidential politics as well as the role of labor in the fall elections. We'll also hear about gains and challenges for working people in the valley and elsewhere in California. It should be a very interesting and important program. We will be in the Mediterranean Center at the rear of the hotel. This will be a popular and informative luncheon so be sure to make a reservation before Thursday noon. Please RSVP to events AT democraticcenturyclub.com. You can also call for a reservation or further information at 650-948-8259. The price remains $20.

New Citizen Swear-in Ceremony
09/25/2008 10:00am
Campbell Community Center - Heritage Theater, 1 West Campbell Avenue in Campbell (off Winchester), Campbell/Cupertino/Saratoga/Los Gatos

Help deliver a welcome from the Democratic Party to brand new Americans. It's a great place to show off your foreign language skills. Naturalization ceremonies take place starting at 10:00am, 1:00pm & 3:00pm, each lasting about an hour. We need to be ready about 30 minutes before each group exits, so plan on being there by 10:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm at the latest..... The main opportunity for us is to distribute Democratic Party literature and encourage new citizens to register after the event...... This is really a festive and inspiring day. The first 2 sessions are the busiest, with the 800 seat Heritage Theater packed with both new citizens and their families. 1200-1400 citizens are processed in total. People pour out all at once at the end times, with some milling about for well wishes..... Meet at ~10:00am (in front of the Heritage Theater, by the fountains), or come later and stay for as long as you're able...... Parking gets tight; try nearby neighborhood streets. Or beat the parking hassle -- Campbell Community Center has excellent transit access; it's right on lines 26 and 60, and about a half-mile or so walk from the Light Rail station. See VTA website www.vta.org for schedule information...... Registration supplies and local party literature provided. There’s a nearby sandwich/snack bar operating all day. Good ideas: an umbrella or sun protection, comfortable clothes, and water...... Please call 408-219-4896 or e-mail volunteer@sccdp.org to sign up or for more info.
