New Citizen Swear-in Ceremony
07/24/2008 10:00am
Campbell Community Center - Heritage Theater, 1 West Campbell Avenue in Campbell (off Winchester), Campbell/Cupertino/Saratoga/Los Gatos

Help deliver a welcome from the Democratic Party to brand new Americans. It's a great place to show off your foreign language skills. Naturalization ceremonies take place starting at 10:00am, 1:00pm & 3:00pm, each lasting about an hour. We need to be ready about 30 minutes before each group exits, so plan on being there by 10:30am, 1:30pm or 3:30pm at the latest..... The main opportunity for us is to distribute Democratic Party literature and encourage new citizens to register after the event...... This is really a festive and inspiring day. The first 2 sessions are the busiest, with the 800 seat Heritage Theater packed with both new citizens and their families. 1200-1400 citizens are processed in total. People pour out all at once at the end times, with some milling about for well wishes..... Meet at ~10:00am (in front of the Heritage Theater, by the fountains), or come later and stay for as long as you're able...... Parking gets tight; try nearby neighborhood streets. Or beat the parking hassle -- Campbell Community Center has excellent transit access; it's right on lines 26 and 60, and about a half-mile or so walk from the Light Rail station. See VTA website www.vta.org for schedule information...... Registration supplies and local party literature provided. There’s a nearby sandwich/snack bar operating all day. Good ideas: an umbrella or sun protection, comfortable clothes, and water...... Please call 408-219-4896 or e-mail volunteer@sccdp.org to sign up or for more info.

PDC Annual Picnic
08/17/2008 5:00pm
245 Wilton Avenue, North County

Expected guests at the PDC Picnic include many elected officials and candidates. The picnic features good food, brief (very brief!) speeches, a silent auction and raffle of valuable and sentimental political (and non-political) goods. If you have something to contribute to the auction call the PDC at (650) 949-1009 or contact us by e-mail at pdc AT peninsulayd.org. For readers new to the PDC, and for those with memories that may need reminding, here are some of the specifics. The picnic is a potluck with enough food to make a meal. (Those who come early can generally fill up on desserts.) We request a $10 contribution at the door; wine, beer and soft drinks will be available; you are asked to bring a potluck dish to share (appetizer, main dish, salad, or desert – your choice). Please bring your checkbook to facilitate bidding on the fabulous articles in the auction. There will also be a raffle with interesting and unique prizes. The picnic will be held at Shoup Park off University Avenue in Los Altos where it has been for the past several years. Directions: Get on El Monte Road; from 280 exit at El Monte toward Los Altos; from Foothill Expressway or El Camino Real take El Monte toward Foothill College. There is a signal at the intersection of University and El Monte. Go West on University (left if you were going toward Los Altos; right if you were headed toward Foothill). After a few blocks the entrance to Shoup Park will be clearly marked on your left. (If you get to the intersection of University and Main you have missed the park; go back.) There is limited parking down the driveway in a lot at the park. If possible, park on the street and walk — it is about one block — down to the park. No reservations or RSVP required; for further information, call the PDC at 650/949-1009.
