Resolution to End Family Separation at the Border
Return to all resolutions
WHEREAS, currently, children and families are being inhumanly detained at our border, held in rooms, surrounded by chain link fences and crammed in with two thousand others, where they are also being separated from their parents and relocated throughout the states without parents’ consent, detained migrant children being left to mostly care for themselves in centers that are so understaffed that children are left to change each other’s diapers; and
WHEREAS the Trump Administration unethically misemploys classified documents of immigrant children to place them in more constrained captivity, and reports of the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) disclosing the information of many immigrant children are troublesome; and
WHEREAS the Democratic Party stands with immigrants, acknowledges their contributions to our country, supports their rights, and seeks to be an ally to this oppressed population, in order that they may hopefully reunite with their parents sooner;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee fully supports and advocates for the rights of migrant families, funding organizations that serve them, and making immigration reform a priority, including specifically by calling ORR records of confidential physiological, medical, and social work case records not be disclosed publicly or used as testimony for the use of any judge or to defame immigrants in a court of law; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee takes a stand against the inhumane practice of separating and indefinitely detaining migrant families at the border.
