Return to all resolutions

WHEREAS research and recent experience show that too few people in California understand the basic principles and functions of our state and local government;

and WHEREAS since the founding of our Nation we have relied on our education systems to prepare young people to participate actively in civic life;

and WHEREAS in the current political environment, more than ever, it is essential that California’s Youth be prepared, encouraged, and equipped to engage actively and effectively in civic life;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee urges local school districts, the County, and the County Board of Education to require that all high schools within their jurisdiction offer a semester elective course on state and local government, and to encourage high schools within their jurisdiction to permit political student organizations and clubs, as well as voter pre-registration drives for 16-17 year olds on high school campuses;

and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee will send a copy of this resolution to the above-mentioned jurisdictions.
