As progressives and Democrats, we know that the future depends on the young. And, in recent years, young people have proven their mettle by stepping up to lead progressive movements to address the climate crisis, reduce gun violence, protect members of the LGBTQ+ community, end police mistreatment of people of color, and more.
To honor, activate, and train young leaders in our local area, our regular monthly meeting of the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee on July 13, 2023, 7pm-9pm, will be a “Youth Takeover” meeting, in which the elected and appointed delegates of the Central Committee will take a seat and allow youth delegates to conduct the meeting, including by introducing, debating, and adopting resolutions. At the end of the meeting, the resolutions adopted by the youth delegates will be considered by the Central Committee as a consent calendar, and those items not pulled from consent will be adopted by the Central Committee as the official positions of the Santa Clara County Democratic Party.
To facilitate more active and meaningful engagement with and among our youth leaders, the Youth Takeover meeting will be an in person event and will be held at the County Building, Newton Auditorium, 70 W Hedding, San Jose, CA 95110. The County Building is centrally located, has plenty of room to spread out for COVID safety, and has ample free parking in a well lit surface lot.
If you know of a high school aged young person who may be interested in participating in our Youth Takeover, please send them the attached flyer and/or direct them to the online registration form.
If you have any questions about the Youth Takeover, please feel free to contact us at youthtakeover@sccdp.org.

Jeremy M. Weinstein, a political scientist, went to Washington with President Obama in 2009. A key staffer in the White House, he foresaw how new technologies might remake the relationship between governments and citizens and launched Obama’s Open Government Partnership. When Samantha Power was appointed US Ambassador to the United Nations, she brought Jeremy to New York, first as her chief of staff and then as her deputy. He returned to Stanford in 2015 as a professor of political science, where he now leads Stanford Impact Labs, a major university initiative that partners research teams with leaders in the public, private, and social sectors to tackle important social problems. He is a prizewinning author and a decorated teacher whose expertise spans domestic politics and U.S. foreign policy.
